Some weeks ago I was at a press release event in Stockholm where the OPI Washington DC fall/winter 2016 collection was presented (read about it here). I have now swatched them all and I must say I’m really impressed by both the formulas and the colors. All but one polish are creme polishes and they all dry super fast. I’m looking forward to wear these when the weather is cooling down!
The actress Kerry Washington is OPI’s new creative ambassador and she was involved in designing this collection. There are 15 polishes in total whereof three are limited edition: Inside the ISABELLEtway, Kerry Blossom and ”Liv” in the Gray. There are two different sets of mini polishes, one containing the three limited edition polishes and one containing: We the Female, Pale to the Cheif, CIA = Color is Awesome and Never a Dulles Moment.
You can find the collection and the sets of mini polishes at the following web shops:
First out is CIA = Color is Awesome which is a gorgeous blue polish with a hint of green. The green doesn’t really show up in this picture but you can spot it in some lights. The coverage of this polish is amazing, you could definitely get away with applying only one coat but if you want the manicure to last a bit longer I recommend you to apply two coats. This polish is one of my favorites in the OPI Washington DC collection!
This is Freedom of Peach, a super cute orange shade. I love that it is not very bright, it’s a bit dull and toned down. Here I applied two coats for full coverage.
Next is Inside the ISABELLEtway which is part of the limited edition polishes. This is actually my least favorite polish in the collection. The shade doesn’t really work with my skin tone but anyhow, I love the name since it’s got my name Isabelle in it! I applied two coats for full coverage.
Next up is this absolutely gorgeous shade called Kerry Blossom. If you like this polish as much as I do, be quick to buy it since it’s limited edition! The formula of this one was perfect, easy to get even and fully opaque in two coats.
The last limited edition polish is this one called ”Liv” in the Gray. I absolutely love gray shades for fall and winter and this one is perfect since it’s not too light and not too dark. The coverage is amazing, one coat gives full coverage but as I mentioned before, if you want your manicure to last a bit longer I recommend you to apply a second coat.
Next up is Madam President which is a fun pop of color in this otherwise quite dull collection. This shade was so hard to capture in a picture, the polish is a bit more pink and a little bit darker in reality. The formula was great, it was easy to get even and was fully opaque in two coats.
This dusty yellow shade is called Never a Dulles Moment. I really like this color but I’m not sure I would necessarily wear it during the fall/winter season. Usually I tend to wear yellow shades during spring and summer. I found this polish a bit harder to apply and the formula wasn’t as good as the others. I needed to apply three coats since it was a bit streaky after two coats.
This polish is called OPI by Popular Vote. It’s a gorgeous dark pink shade that I think will suit most people. It’s easy to wear, has a really good formula and covers well in two coats.
This nude/light beige polish is called Pale to the Chief and is the only polish in the collection with a bit of shimmer. I love this shade but unfortunately I don’t like the formula very much. It was still streaky after two coats and I needed to apply a third coat to even it out. Even though there’s a bit shimmer in the polish it’s barely noticeable on the nails.
Next up is the darkest polish in the collection which is called Shh…It’s Top Secret! I would say it is a very dark brown shade, almost black. I was surprised when I applied it since the formula is very thin compared to the other polishes. The first coat was very streaky but the second coat evened it out and gave full coverage.
This polish is called Squeaker of the House and is an earthy, light brown shade with a hint of purple. It’s a very interesting and nice polish which I think will be perfect for fall and winter. I applied two coats for full coverage.
Next up is this dark green, gorgeous polish called Stay Off the Lawn!! The formula is great, you could get away with applying only one coat but I recommend you to apply two coats for a more chip-resistant manicure. I would say the color is a bit darker in reality than what the picture shows.
This polish is called Suzi – The First Lady of Nails and is a lovely olive green shade. When I first saw this polish I thought I wouldn’t like it but it’s actually really nice on. It covers well in two coats.
Next up is a dark red polish called We the Female. It’s a classic color for fall and winter and once again the formula is great. One coat could be enough but I recommend a second coat for better staying power.
Lastly we have this lovely dull orange shade called Yank My Doodle. I think this color is gorgeous but unfortunately the formula was a bit tricky. Some nails were streaky after the second coat and needed a third coat to get even. The shade was a bit difficult to capture in the picture and I would say it’s a little bit darker in reality.
I really hope you liked this blog post and got some advice on what polishes to keep an extra eye out for in late August (2016) when the OPI Washington DC collection is released in stores.
As previously mentioned, the polishes can be found at the following web shops:
