OPI California Dreaming collection swatches review OPI summer 2017
The OPI California Dreaming collection

Finally I’ve got swatches of the OPI California Dreaming collection! It’s OPI’s summer 2017 collection and it contains lots of lovely shades.

OPI Time For a Napa swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Time For a Napa from the OPI California Dreaming collection

First we have the OPI California Dreaming signature shade – Time For a Napa. It’s a gorgeous pink/coral nail polish which is the perfect summer color! Here I applied two coats for full coverage.

Next is another favorite from this collection – Sweet Carmel Sunday. This is a bronzy/brown/gold super shimmery, metallic polish. It feels very luxurious and the shade works really well with a tan! The only disappointment is that it leaves a bit of a streaky finish. It didn’t bother me that much but if you’re super picky with the formula, you should keep this in mind. For full coverage I applied two coats.

Here we have This is Not Whine Country which is a beautiful dark pink/cerise nail polish. I think this shade will suit most people, it’s easy to wear but still gives a fun pop of color. It has a lovely jelly finish and for full coverage I applied two coats.

OPI Barking Up the Wrong Sequoia swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection

Next is a light pink/peach polish called Barking Up the Wrong Sequoia. I really like how this shade looks on the picture, but while wearing it I thought it was a bit too light for my pale skin. What surprised me though was that it was quite easy to get the polish even. Usually I struggle with the finish of these light shades. For full coverage I applied two coats.

OPI To the Mouse House We Go! swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI To the Mouse House We Go! from the OPI California Dreaming collection

What is a summer collection without a bright red nail polish? This one is called To the Mouse House We Go!, and even though it’s a nice shade of red, there’s nothing unique about it. It has a jelly finish and covers well in two coats.

OPI Don't Take Yosemite For Granite swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Don’t Take Yosemite For Granite from the OPI California Dreaming collection

If the last polish was a bit boring, this is the complete opposite. I think this one, which is called Don’t Take Yosemite For Granite, is the most unique polish in the collection. It’s a dark gray shade with hints of purple. It’s a shimmery and metallic polish with a nice formula that is easy to get even and covers well in two coats.

OPI Malibu Pier Pressure swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Malibu Pier Pressure from the OPI California Dreaming collection

This one is called Malibu Pier Pressure and is a bright baby pink shade. I really like the formula of this nail polish. It was easy to get an even finish and two thin coats gave full coverage.

OPI Me Myselfie & I swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Me, Myselfie & I from the OPI California Dreaming collection

Next we have this bright shade called Me, Myselfie & I which I cannot decide if it’s red or orange. Depending on the light, the polish leans more towards one of the colors. OPI themselves calls it a coral but I don’t really agree since it’s darker than what I usually would call a coral shade. However, the nail polish is nice, a bit too orange for my taste, but it works well in the summer. Two coats gave full coverage.

OPI Feeling Frisco swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Feeling Frisco from the OPI California Dreaming collection

Feeling Frisco is the lightest shade in the collection. It’s a very light nude polish and even for me who has quite a pale skin tone, this shade feels a bit too light. Also, I didn’t really like the formula. It was the only polish that required three coats to get an even finish and full coverage.

OPI GPS I Love You swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI GPS I Love You from the OPI California Dreaming collection

This polish is called GPS I Love You. It’s a bright pink/cerise shade that I really like! The formula of this one is very thin, but since the color is quite dark it still covers well in two coats. Thanks to the thin formula, it’s also easy to get an even result.

OPI Excuse Me Big Sur! swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Excuse Me Big Sur! from the OPI California Dreaming collection

Next is this gorgeous light pink polish called Excuse Me, Big Sur!. This is one of my favorites in the collection since the pink shade is not very bright which makes it very wearable. For full coverage I applied two coats.

OPI Santa Monica Beach Peach swatch OPI California Dreaming swatches OPI summer 2017 collection
OPI Santa Monica Beach Peach from the OPI California Dreaming collection

Lastly we have this bright orange shade called Santa Monica Beach Peach. I’m not a big fan of orange so not surprisingly, this polish is my least favorite in the collection. However, I really like the formula of this one. It covers well in two coats and the polish is easy to apply evenly.

My overall opinion of the OPI California Dreaming collection

There’s no secret that I’m a big OPI fan and I think this collection is a gorgeous one for the summer. The formulas of the polishes (except from Feeling Frisco) are great and I love that there are so many creme polishes. My only disappointment with this collection is that it contains so many pinks. Six of the twelve polishes are pink and even though I get that pink and red polishes are what most people wear in the summer, I would have appreciated a bit more variety. However, the more unique polishes Sweet Carmel Sunday and Don’t Take Yosemite For Granite are stunning polishes that I’m sure I’ll get a lot of wear out of! Overall, it’s a nice collection with well formulated polishes, but the variety of shades could have been better.

If you’re interested in buying any of the polishes you can find them by clicking on the pictures in the list below.

Thank you for reading! Let me know you’re thoughts on the collection in the comments!

Le mini macaron review – at home gel nail system

04 juli 2017 av nailsbyic
Nails, Reviews, Swatches

A while ago I received this super cute package with a new nail product called Le mini macaron. It’s a DIY gel nail kit with a LED lamp looking lika a macaron!

The Le mini macaron kit in the shade Rose Creme

What is Le mini macaron?

Le mini macaron is a gel nail system that you can use at home. It was created for us who want nice-looking nails but don’t have the opportunity to go to a nail salon everytime the nails have to be done. This DIY gel nail system can be used in a simple manner wherever you are. The gel polish does not have that strong smell like ordinary nail polish which makes it possible to use wherever you like, for example at the office or on the train. Also, the polish has a 3-in-1 formula which means that it combines base coat, color and top coat in one polish. The gel manicure is claimed to look as good as when done at a salon and the polish will last for up to 10 days. The kit contains a nail polish (10 ml), a LED lamp, a cuticle pusher, a small nail file and 10 remover pads.

How does Le mini macaron work?

  1. Start by washing your hands, push back your cuticles and lightly file the surface and tip of your nails.
  2. Apply a super thin layer of the nail polish on one nail. There should barely be any polish on the brush when applying it.
  3. Cure the polish in the LED-lamp for 30 seconds. The LED-lamp has a USB cable that you can plug in to your computer.
  4. Apply a second coat that is a little thicker than the first one. Let cure for 30 seconds. Done!

What do I think about Le mini macaron?

I really like the idea of le mini macaron! Since I’m used to regular nail polish it feels amazing that the polish cures and is completely dry as soon as it comes out from the LED-lamp. I don’t need to worry about destroying my manicure by touching something and I’m free to do whatever as soon as I’m done. I really like that the LED-lamp is so small because it makes it possible to easily bring it with you. By using this little gadget you can get nice nails whenever and wherever you like! Also, I think it’s really cool that the lamp comes with a USB cable (+ an ordinary cable) that you can plug in to your computer.

When first reading about this product I thought it would feel a bit annoying to have to cure each nail individually. At a salon, the lamps are bigger and you can cure all nails on one hand at once. However, since the curing time is only 30 seconds and you can apply polish to the second nail while the first one is curing, I didn’t feel that I had to wait very much.

When applying the polish I had some problems with getting it to look even. Usually this is difficult for all light shades, even for regular nail polish, so I wasn’t that surprised. The instructions tell you to only apply two coats but due to the uneveness I had to apply three to make it look good. The finish is very shiny and I think this shade – Rose Creme – is gorgeous! I also like that the gel polish makes your nails really hard and you won’t have to worry that much about them breaking.

To really put the product to the test, I applied it in different ways on different nails. When I applied a thick first layer, the polish started to chip already after a couple of days and I could easily peel off all the polish from that nail. When applying a very thin first layer (as you’re supposed to do) the polish lasted much longer. I also tried to both file and not file the surface of the nail before applying the polish, but I didn’t notice any difference in how long the polish lasted. The gel polish lasted for about a week without any major chipping and it was quite easy to remove the polish by using the remover pads in the package.

Scratch of Sweden review and manicure

16 juni 2017 av nailsbyic
Nail art, Nails, Reviews

A couple of months ago I was at an event where I got to meet Marie Houston, the creator of the nail polish brand Scratch of Sweden! She was so kind and wanted to send me some of her polishes to try, and some days later I received a big box full of beautiful polishes. So long, I’ve only had time to try them out in one manicure, but I really like the polishes! The formulas are great and they dry quite quickly. I’m also a big fan of the colors, well done Marie!

From left to right: Scratch of Sweden Strawberry Ice Cream, Frosted and Black Purple

For the manicure I created I used the polishes in the picture above. The light pink one is called Strawberry Ice Cream and is a sheer polish which I think would be perfect for a French manicure. The polish in the middle is my favorite, Frosted – a super shimmery, metallic, light pink polish. Lastly we have Black Purple, a shimmery, very deep purple shade. I applied two coats of all polishes. Frosted and Black Purple got completely opaque after two coats while Strawberry Ice Cream is supposed to be a bit sheer.

I really like this color combination and I like that the polishes have different formulas. Shimmer, metallic and creme polishes, why not mix them all? I’m excited to try more polishes from Scratch of Sweden and I’ll make sure to update you with some more manicures and thoughts about the polishes!
