ORLY nail care products review

Nails, Reviews

I’ve got the perception that a lot of people think that nail care is just time-consuming and that they don’t see the point in applying for example a base coat or a top coat. Are you one of those people? If so, think again. When you take care of your nails correctly, your polish will last much longer and you won’t have to paint your nails as often – meaning you save time! If you want to know my nail care routine, check it out in this blog post!

From left to right: ORLY Sec’n Dry quick-dry topcoat, ORLY Nailtrition nail growth treatment, ORLY Argan Oil Cuticle Drops & ORLY One Night Stand peel off basecoat

I’ve been trying out some ORLY nail care products for a couple of moths now and it is time for a review. There are four products altogether; a top coat, a nail growth treatment, a cuticle oil and a basecoat. Four products that will prepare your nails for a long-lasting manicure.

ORLY Sec'n dry quick dry top coat
ORLY Sec’n Dry – quick dry top coat

The first product is the ORLY Sec’n Dry quick-dry topcoat which is supposed to quickly deep dry multiple layers of lacquer and result in a hard and protective finish. When I use new top coats I can’t help but comparing them to my favorite Seche Vite top coat. This ORLY top coat does not dry as fast as the Seche Vite one, but aside from that I really like it. The formula is a bit thinner than the Seche Vite top coat which makes it easy to apply and it applies evenly over the nail surface. Also, it does not pick up any polish from the layer underneath as the new top coats from OPI do (check out my review here). The ORLY Sec’n Dry topcoat retails for 129 SEK.

ORLY Nailtrition nail growth treatment strength nails base coat long nails
ORLY Nailtrition – nail growth treatment

The ORLY Nailtrition nail growth treatment is aimed at helping you strengthen your nails and make them grow faster. The formula contains collagen, wheat protein, keratin and bamboo extract which stimulates the nails to become healthier and longer. The directions says that you should apply 1-2 coats every day during the first week of using it, and then remove it at the end of the week. Repeat this during the second week and then let your nails rest from the treatment for one week. If necessary you can repeat this program.

When I first started growing out my nails I used a similar nail treatment from OPI called Nail Envy. That treatment really helped me and I believe this product work in a similar way. Since I already have strong, healthy and long nails I cannot review this product fairly. If you’re interested in growing out your nails I definitely think a nail treatment is what you need, but I suggest you to check out other reviews of this product to get a better perception of it. One thing to keep in mind is that this polish has a shimmery, light pink finish. I didn’t really like the finish but that might depend on my stained nails. The ORLY Nailtrition nail growth treatment retails for 149 SEK.

ORLY argan oil cuticle drops cuticle oil nail care nails
ORLY Argan Oil Cuticle Drops

This cuticle oil is my favorite product among the ORLY nail care products! It’s the ORLY Argan Oil Cuticle Drops which is perfect for nourishing and hydrating the nails and cuticles. The formula contains argan oil, jojoba oil and vitamin E. It is recommended to use this product daily for the best result and I tend to use it before bedtime since it gives the nails a better chance to absorb the product and if applying it the same time every day it is easier to remember. The applicator is a dropper which makes application easy and the oil has a very nice scent, almost like lemon candy. I definitely think cuticle oil is a must have for healthy-looking nails – no more dry cuticles! The ORLY Argan Oil Cuticle Drops retails for 160 SEK, this might seem a bit expensive but since you use such a small amount every time you apply it, I think it’s quite good value for money.

ORLY One Night Stand Peel Off Base Coat remove glitter nail polish
ORLY One Night Stand – peel off base coat

Lastly we have the ORLY One Night Stand peel off base coat which is supposed to help with glitter polish removal. When applying this underneath a glitter polish (or any other polish), you are supposed to be able to peel off the polish easily in one go without hurting the nail. I was actually very disappointed with this product. I couldn’t get it to apply evenly over the nail since the formula was so thin and the base coat ran down onto my cuticles. I tried to apply it in different ways, both in thin coats as recommended and thick coats, but nothing worked and it dried very slowly. When trying to peel it off, nothing happened or I was only able to remove tiny pieces. I’ve had similar problems with the OPI Glitter Off which makes me wonder if these products are just not suitable for my nails. Anyhow, this product was unfortunately a let down for me. The ORLY One Night Stand peel off basecoat retails for 129 SEK.

IsaDora Cover Up Foundation and Concealer review

Beauty, Reviews

The products shown in this blog post were received as PR samples, but the opinions are mine and completely honest. The blog post contains affiliate links.

I’ve been trying out the new IsaDora Cover up foundation and concealer for about a month now and it’s time for a review! In the launch there are also a foundation brush called face buffer brush, a concealer brush, a new anti-redness ultra cover compact powder and a new color correcting concealer.

isadora cover up foundation and concealer ultra cover compact powder color correcting concealer face buffer brush concealer brush
IsaDora Cover up foundation & concealer, ultra cover compact powder, color correcting concealer, face buffer brush and concealer brush.

IsaDora states that the Cover up foundation and concealer is supposed to give a ”picture perfect” finish all day long and it’s supposed to cover naturally fine lines, uneven skin tones, rashes and pasty skin in seconds. The foundation is supposed to give full coverage with a comfortable feeling on the skin, be long-lasting, be hydrating, make the skin tight and give a silky finish. The product can be used both as a foundation and as a concealer, it comes in five shades and the packaging is a vacuum pump which means the product will stay fresh for a very long time and you will be able to get out every drop of it.

The active ingredients in the IsaDora Cover up foundation and concealer are:

  • Mimosa bark extract and Darutoside: Tightening properties, reduce fine lines, fade out dark circles, reduce swelling, detox-effect.
  • Arctic rose root- and yeast extract: reduce signs of tiredness and give new energy to pasty skin.
  • Squalane: hydrating, antioxidant, repairing.
  • Glycerin: hydrating.

So what do I think?

The foundation is super easy and fast to apply. It feels very nice on the skin and it has great coverage. My skin is quite oily with a lot of redness to cover and this foundation really does its job. I think all IsaDora’s claims about this product are true and this foundation is a new favorite of mine! It stays on really well throughout the day, especially if I set it with the anti-redness powder which is part of this launch. The finish is a bit dewier than I like (probably since I have quite oily skin to begin with) but with the powder, the finish is perfect. For the best color match, I need to mix the two lightest foundation shades, no 60 Light Cover and no 62 Nude Cover. Due to this and since there are no dark shades available, I think the color range could have been better. However, I absolutely love the foundation, especially since it gives a full coverage finish without looking unnatural.

isadora ultra cover compact powder anti redness 23 camoflage nude
IsaDora Ultra cover compact powder in 23 Camoflage Nude

The Ultra cover compact powder in the shade 23 Camoflage Nude is an anti-redness powder with SPF 20. IsaDora claims that this powder is a problem solving face powder with a superior covering result. It is supposed to effectively cover couperose, superficial veins, red nose, and flaring cheeks. It comes with a sponge and it suits normal to oily skin.

I really like this powder! I was afraid it would turn cakey after a while due to the high coverage, but it doesn’t. In fact, I think the coverage is perfect for areas that are a bit more red and the powder stays on really well. However, if you have dryer skin, this powder might be a bit too dry for you. I have tried applying it both with the sponge that comes with it and with a powder brush and I think they both work well. The sponge applies a bit more product to the skin than the brush, and when I’ve used the sponge the powder stays on for a bit longer. The finish is matte but I still think the result looks natural. In other words, it’s a great powder!

isadora color correcting concealer 36 Nude Quartet
IsaDora Color correcting concealer in 36 nude quartet.

The color correcting concealer in the shade 36 Nude Quartet consists of four nude shades with both warm and cold tones. IsaDora recommends you to mix the shades to get the perfect shade for you or to use them separately depending on skin tone and season. IsaDora also says that you can apply it with your fingertips or with the concealer brush which is part of the launch.

I have mixed feelings for this concealer. Sometimes it works really well and I love the coverage it gives, but sometimes it dries out my skin and makes the area where I’ve applied it look even worse. I’ve tried using it both with my fingers and with the concealer brush, and for me fingers work best. I mix the two middle tones to get the right shade for me and even though I have quite fair skin tone, the lightest shade is way too light for me, even as a highlighter. I’ll definitely continue to use this concealer since I love the coverage and the color match you get by mixing the shades, but I’ll be careful applying it on dryer parts of the face.

The IsaDora Color correcting concealer can be bought at the following web shops:

International shipping: Feelunique.comNelly.comScandinavian shipping: LykoElevenNordicfeel

isadora foundation brush face buffer brush concealer brush
IsaDora Face buffer brush and Concealer brush

There are two brushes in the launch, one foundation brush called IsaDora face buffer brush and one concealer brush. Both brushes are made with Taklon which is a high quality synthetic fiber hair. I really like the face buffer brush to buff in the Cover up foundation & concealer. It makes the application really fast and the finish is smooth and even. I’ve only tried this brush for applying liquid foundation but according to IsaDora you can also use it for applying lose or pressed powder, compact foundation, bronzer and blusher. It’s a really versatile brush which I like a lot! The IsaDora concealer brush, however, is not a favorite of mine. It is quite stiff which I think makes the concealer application a bit difficult. I prefer a softer brush or my fingertips.

The IsaDora Face buffer brush and concealer brush can be found on the following web shops:

International shipping: Feelunique.com & Nelly.com Scandinavian shipping: Lyko & Nordicfeel

I hope you liked this review and that you got a better idea of what the products are like. I know that my blog is more about nails than makeup but since I like both, I really like writing some makeup reviews every now and again. Hope you don’t mind!

OPI’s holiday 2016 collection is finally here! The collection is called OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s and contains 12 gorgeous nail polishes. Below you’ll find swatches of them all and if you can’t decide which ones to get, continue reading for my OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s review. For bigger pictures, just click on the pictures and open them in a new tab.

OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection

The OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection is inspired by Audrey Hepburn, her style and glamour and the fashionable film Breakfast at Tiffany’s. If you’re interested in buying any of the polishes, you can find them on the following web shops:

International shipping: eBay.com & Nelly.comScandinavian shipping: Eleven.se & Lyko.se

OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s

OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s – the polish with the same name as the collection – is an off white shade with lots of shimmer (click on the picture and zoom to see it). The formula is a bit sheer, I applied two coats and as you can see, it is not fully opaque. I think this one is really pretty and is suitable for many occasions.

OPI I Believe In Manicures

OPI I believe in Manicures is a light blue polish which I guess is inspired by the Tiffany blue shade (however, it is not the same exact shade). This is a creme polish and two coats give full coverage. A pretty color but I’ve seen some similar polishes from OPI before. For example Sailing & Nailing from the OPI Retro Summer collection.

OPI Got the Mean Reds

OPI Got the Mean Reds is a true holiday red which I think is the perfect Christmas polish. The formula is very good, it’s a creme polish and is fully opaque in two coats.

OPI Can’t Read Without My Lipstick

OPI Can’t Read Without My Lipstick is a dark, dark red polish which is fully opaque in two coats. It’s a creme polish and it’s absolutely stunning!

OPI Meet My ”Decorator”

OPI Meet My ”Decorator” is a light red creme polish, slightly on the orange side. I don’t really like the formula of this one. It was difficult to get even and I needed to apply three coats to get full coverage.

opi rich and brazilian swatch opi breakfast at tiffany's collection swatches review christmas holiday 2016 2017 winter purple
OPI Rich & Brazilian

OPI Rich & Brazilian is my favorite in the collection. It is a dark purple polish with pink/purple shimmer. Two coats give full coverage and this polish is GORGEOUS!

opi black dress not optional swatch opi breakfast at tiffany's collection swatches review christmas holiday 2016 2017 winter black
OPI Black Dress Not Optional

OPI Black Dress Not Optional is a shimmery, black shade which is fully opaque in two coats. The formula is quite sheer and when I first applied it I thought I would need three coats to get it even. However, the second coat gave full coverage and evened out the surface. The polish is pretty, but I have a feeling there are lots of similar shades out there.

opi fire escape rendezvous swatch opi breakfast at tiffany's collection swatches review christmas holiday 2016 2017 winter red
OPI Fire Escape Rendezvous

OPI Fire Escape Rendezvous is a light red polish with large glitter chunks. I don’t get this polish. It looks very pretty in the bottle but on the nails it looks just messy and bumpy. I had high hopes for this one but unfortunately, I think the collection would be better off without it. Two coats gave full coverage.

opi five and ten swatch opi breakfast at tiffany's collection swatches review christmas holiday 2016 2017 winter silver
OPI Five-and-Ten

OPI Five-and-Ten is an interesting polish. The formula is very sheer, it’s not supposed to be a full coverage polish but it doesn’t feel like a glitter top coat either. It’s a silver polish with pink and silver shimmer and unfortunately it is not really in my taste. I think I would have liked it better in a less sheer formula.

opi apartment for two swatch opi breakfast at tiffany's collection swatches review christmas holiday 2016 2017 winter pink
OPI Apartment for Two

OPI Apartment for Two is a hot pink creme polish which is fully opaque in two coats. I think this is a fun addition to the collection – who says Christmas must be red?

OPI Sunrise… Bedtime!

OPI Sunrise… Bedtime! is a glitter top coat with mostly pink glitters, but also a lot of multicolored glitter pieces. Here I applied one coat over OPI Apartment for Two and I think it is super pretty! You can use this polish without a base color as well but it will not be fully opaque.

opi champagne for breakfast swatch opi breakfast at tiffany's collection swatches review christmas holiday 2016 2017 winter glitter top coat
OPI Champagne for Breakfast

OPI Champagne for Breakfast is the last polish in the collection. It is similar to OPI Sunrise… Bedtime! but it has mostly silver glitters (instead of pink), and a lot of multicolored glitter pieces. Here I applied one coat over OPI Got the Mean Reds. As with the previous glitter top coat, you can use this one without a base color but it won’t be fully opaque.

I hope you liked my swatches of the OPI Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection! As previously mentioned, you can find the polishes on the following web shops:
