I’ve got the perception that a lot of people think that nail care is just time-consuming and that they don’t see the point in applying for example a base coat or a top coat. Are you one of those people? If so, think again. When you take care of your nails correctly, your polish will last much longer and you won’t have to paint your nails as often – meaning you save time! If you want to know my nail care routine, check it out in this blog post!
I’ve been trying out some ORLY nail care products for a couple of moths now and it is time for a review. There are four products altogether; a top coat, a nail growth treatment, a cuticle oil and a basecoat. Four products that will prepare your nails for a long-lasting manicure.
The first product is the ORLY Sec’n Dry quick-dry topcoat which is supposed to quickly deep dry multiple layers of lacquer and result in a hard and protective finish. When I use new top coats I can’t help but comparing them to my favorite Seche Vite top coat. This ORLY top coat does not dry as fast as the Seche Vite one, but aside from that I really like it. The formula is a bit thinner than the Seche Vite top coat which makes it easy to apply and it applies evenly over the nail surface. Also, it does not pick up any polish from the layer underneath as the new top coats from OPI do (check out my review here). The ORLY Sec’n Dry topcoat retails for 129 SEK.
The ORLY Nailtrition nail growth treatment is aimed at helping you strengthen your nails and make them grow faster. The formula contains collagen, wheat protein, keratin and bamboo extract which stimulates the nails to become healthier and longer. The directions says that you should apply 1-2 coats every day during the first week of using it, and then remove it at the end of the week. Repeat this during the second week and then let your nails rest from the treatment for one week. If necessary you can repeat this program.
When I first started growing out my nails I used a similar nail treatment from OPI called Nail Envy. That treatment really helped me and I believe this product work in a similar way. Since I already have strong, healthy and long nails I cannot review this product fairly. If you’re interested in growing out your nails I definitely think a nail treatment is what you need, but I suggest you to check out other reviews of this product to get a better perception of it. One thing to keep in mind is that this polish has a shimmery, light pink finish. I didn’t really like the finish but that might depend on my stained nails. The ORLY Nailtrition nail growth treatment retails for 149 SEK.
This cuticle oil is my favorite product among the ORLY nail care products! It’s the ORLY Argan Oil Cuticle Drops which is perfect for nourishing and hydrating the nails and cuticles. The formula contains argan oil, jojoba oil and vitamin E. It is recommended to use this product daily for the best result and I tend to use it before bedtime since it gives the nails a better chance to absorb the product and if applying it the same time every day it is easier to remember. The applicator is a dropper which makes application easy and the oil has a very nice scent, almost like lemon candy. I definitely think cuticle oil is a must have for healthy-looking nails – no more dry cuticles! The ORLY Argan Oil Cuticle Drops retails for 160 SEK, this might seem a bit expensive but since you use such a small amount every time you apply it, I think it’s quite good value for money.
Lastly we have the ORLY One Night Stand peel off base coat which is supposed to help with glitter polish removal. When applying this underneath a glitter polish (or any other polish), you are supposed to be able to peel off the polish easily in one go without hurting the nail. I was actually very disappointed with this product. I couldn’t get it to apply evenly over the nail since the formula was so thin and the base coat ran down onto my cuticles. I tried to apply it in different ways, both in thin coats as recommended and thick coats, but nothing worked and it dried very slowly. When trying to peel it off, nothing happened or I was only able to remove tiny pieces. I’ve had similar problems with the OPI Glitter Off which makes me wonder if these products are just not suitable for my nails. Anyhow, this product was unfortunately a let down for me. The ORLY One Night Stand peel off basecoat retails for 129 SEK.
Disclaimer: This review is based on my honest opinion. I have not been asked to do it and I am not getting paid for it. I received the polishes as a PR sample.
